The west entrance plaza containing a brick walking path, two sitting walls, four Topeka High themed murals and tables for use as an outdoor classroom, lunch space and social gatherings was dedicated on May 11; thanks to the generosity of a family that can boast of nine siblings who graduated from Topeka High from 1941 to 1961.
The Barrett Family dedicated the plaza to their parents William and Myrtle (1921) and their sister Pauline, who supported them from home. The Barretts and THS Spouses are: Paul (1944), William (1947), Tom (1948) and Marilyn Dunn (1948), Bonnie (1949) and Dale Wilson (1949), Donna (1951), Jack (1952) and Marcella Ecord (1952), John (1953), Richard (1956), and Carolyn (1961) and Frank Keller (1961).
Shade and Kansas rains (or lack thereof) have forever presented a grass growing challenge on the west campus. Now there are designated pathways and a beautiful and useful plaza for the school. Topeka High and the THS Historical Society thank the Barrett Family. Watch the dedication ceremony:
